Also known as PRP or the “Vampire Facial”—is on the cutting edge of regenerative therapies and is quickly becoming one of our favorite anti-aging treatments.
PRP initially gained recognition for being used to treat pain and accelerate healing in injured tissue and joints. Many professional athletes have been benefiting for years from PRP, and it wasn’t long before dermatologists starting using this therapy to turn back the hands of time and bring back that youthful glow. PRP utilizes your own body’s healing ability to stimulate skin recovery and boost collagen production—what’s better than that?
PRP can treat anything from fine lines and sun damage to deep wrinkles and acne scarring. It requires a simple blood draw from the arm and uses a centrifuge to separate the platelets into platelet rich plasma. Here at Lanoi Cosmetic Dermatology we use PRP as a topical treatment in conjunction with Microneedling and IPL—and, for a more aggressive approach, with skin resurfacing. We’ve seen some amazing results!
Our highly trained nurse practitioners will draw a few vials of your blood. We then spin your blood in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets from the red blood cells. Using our unique microneedling device, we create micro channels that will serve as tiny gateways for the PRP to flow into your skin. When Platelet-rich plasma is applied, it releases at least eight essential growth factors and signaling proteins into the skin. These work to repair tissue and blood vessels, promote the growth of new tissue, and boost healthy cell production. The results are typically seen in about 4-6 weeks as collagen takes a time to grow.
A patient’s blood (about 20cc) is placed in a centrifuge and spun in order to separate the blood from the growth factors, platelets and stem cells. This rejuvenation mixture is then micro-injected in areas of the face where signs of aging have appeared, such as the areas surrounding the eyes, cheeks, mouth and forehead.
Yes. If done alone it can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation. But in many cases, PRP facial rejuvenation is performed with a lower face lift, jowl lift, neck lift, or eye lift and brow lift surgery. It can also be combined with fat transfer for a more volumizing effect, and with laser resurfacing.
Minor bruising or swelling will last about a week if the procedure is performed alone. Most patients look presentable and return to work in 2-3 days. If it is performed in conjunction with laser treatment, recovery will last about a week. If PRP facial rejuvenation is performed with fat transfer, the recovery is about a week.
Because PRP facial rejuvenation is a minimally invasive procedure, most adults with signs of aging are good candidates.
