Microneedling – Lanoi Cosmetic Dermatology | San Diego, California

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling technology is composed of medical grade needles that are used to treat and improve acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, hyperpigmentation and stretch marks. Microneedling allows for controlled stimulation of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, micro-injuries in the skin, which automatically trigger new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. The micro-injuries also create channels that allow product to penetrate deeper into the skin resulting in better product efficacy. The skin shows overall improvement in smoothness and firmness with very minimal downtime and no discomfort for the patient. Microneedling is an inexpensive alternative to laser when desiring an overall transformation of the skin.

The Micropen works by using fine needles to make micro-injuries or micro-trauma on  your skin, stimulating and increasing the natural production of collagen by your body.  The depth of the needles and number of treatments depends on the area of concern and goals of the patient.  Your Lanoi Cosmetic Dermatology in La Jolla and San Diego practitioner will help you decide the best way to reach your skin goals.  Not only does the Micropen target fine lines and texture, it can also help with acne scarring, stretch marks, large pores, minor blemishes and non keloid scars.  The effects of the Micropen can be smoother, firmer, younger looking skin that gives the appearance of a glowing, refreshed look.

Microneedling Frequently asked questions

How long is recovery?

The initial redness subsides very rapidly in the first few hours, taking about 24-36 hours to resolve, as does the swelling.

Rarely, patients report extended redness for a few more days.

What are the restrictions after the Micropen?

Skin care must be only the prescribed creams. No make up until the morning and care with touching the skin with unclean hands, bedding or towels. There are no activity restrictions!

How many treatments are needed?

Good question. It varies? To get maximum benefit, the general recommendation is 3. Some people might be happy with only one. Younger patients wanting only preventative treatments can get one yearly. Acne scarring clients should consider at least 3, and might be more satisfied with 5 or 6.
