Improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, and chest

Fractional Resurfacing

What is ActiveFX?

ActiveFX is the gold standard in laser resurfacing. It can dramatically improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, dark spots, and other irregularities on the face, neck and chest. By removing sun damage with fractional technology, it stimulates the formation of new and healthy skin and new collagen. This provides greater elasticity and support which results in more youthful, firmer, tighter skin. Significant results are seen with just one treatment and compared to older CO2 lasers, ActiveFX has much less downtime and aftercare. In one week you can see incredible results that used to take 3 or more weeks of healing!

For those looking to go a little deeper, DeepFX is another option in CO2 laser resurfacing that penetrates to the lower part of the collagen layer to repair deep lines and wrinkles, acne scars and scars from surgery or trauma. Effective as a standalone treatment, DeepFX can also work in combination with ActiveFX (referred to as TotalFX) to achieve optimal results.

If you aren’t sure which approach is right for you, simply schedule a consultation to pinpoint your specific needs. Whether you opt for ActiveFX, DeepFX or TotalFX, each procedure is performed in the comfort of our laser suite with topical anesthetics. The procedure can take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes, and once complete; patients will experience a sensation similar to a sunburn. Post-treatment aftercare is carefully designed by our staff. The recovery process concludes with a comprehensive consultation and long-term skin care and available treatments to continue improving the health and beauty of your skin.

Frequently asked questions

What should I expect during the procedure?

The treatment itself lasts approximately 20 minutes. You should plan on an hour for the entire visit in order for us to apply anesthetic cream prior to the treatment, to help minimize discomfort.

During the treatment, you will feel a warm sensation over the area being treated.

How will I know if I need ActiveFX, DeepFX or TotalFX?

Patients can opt for only an ActiveFX treatment, depending on the areas of concern. However, Dr. Bonilla recommends using the ActiveFX and DeepFX treatments together for most patients, as they provide optimal results.

What’s the difference between ActiveFx, DeepFx and TotalFX?

ActiveFX is CO2 laser skin resurfacing for the active person. It is a fractional laser treatment, meaning only a fraction of the skin’s surface is treated by the laser, leaving small areas of skin “untouched” allowing for a faster healing process and enables you to get back to normal activities sooner. The treatment causes the upper layer of skin to peel off and regenerate a layer of new, healthy skin.

DeepFX is CO2 laser skin resurfacing for deeper wrinkles and scars that have a dermal component. This treatment also uses a fractional pattern to aid in the regeneration process. The deep heating associated with DeepFX causes immediate collagen tightening and long-term collagen remodeling. The patient can expect softening and smoothing of wrinkles and scars, with improved skin texture. The DeepFX treatment is fantastic for wrinkles around the mouth and eyes.

TotalFX combines the ActiveFX and DeepFX systems. The results are fractional resurfacing of the surface of your skin, removing sun damage and brown spots, as well as the deeper skin, removing wrinkles, scars, and uneven skin tone. TotalFX is a complete resurfacing treatment capable of astounding results.

How long does it take to recover from laser skin resurfacing?
